The bins are a dual layer powder coat on metal construction so they're super sturdy and should not rust. We recommend hand washing with warm soapy water and hand drying really well prior to using again.

We recommend using compostable bags to minimise the mess and make the clean up easier. It's up to you really, you can use the compost bin just fine without compostable bags.

The activated charcoal filters ensure smells from the contents of the bin don't take over your kitchen. Our filters are super thick which means they're highly effective at keeping smells under control and keeping fruit flies and other pests out of the bin.

The filters should last 2 -3 months if the bin is emptied frequently and cleaned well each time. If food scraps are left in the bin for too long mold can form inside the lid and in the charocal filter itself which you want to avoid.
